Michelle Murphy’s work as a school-based intervention specialist provides her with a unique perspective on the legal issues facing school districts and administrators. She is sensitive to the limited resources available to school districts and takes a preventive, solutions-based approach to her work. Michelle currently serves as general counsel to a number of small to mid-size school districts throughout the State. She has also developed a line of school law seminars designed to provide district staff with a basic understanding of the legal framework governing their daily interactions.
Michelle Murphy received a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Denver in 1996. Following graduation, she worked as an intervention specialist in the Boulder and St. Vrain Valley School Districts where she provided counseling, advocacy and mediation services to students and their families. Michelle also worked closely with faculty and administration to develop effective methods of conflict resolution and crisis management.
Michelle received her law degree from the University of Colorado in 2002. After graduating from CU Law, she worked as a real estate associate at one of Denver’s top firms. Her work included local and national leasing and representation of clients in a variety of purchase, sale and development transactions. Michelle also advised clients on land use and development approvals.
Michelle joined Alexander Halpern LLC in 2004. Her practice is currently focused on the areas of school law, non-profit law and small business management. She has also developed a line of school law seminars for educators and administrators, which she delivers in school districts throughout the State.
